MDFR’s Doral North Station #69 Open for Business

(MIAMI, October 31, 2013) – Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) celebrated the grand opening of Doral North Station #69 on Thursday, October 31, 2013, at 10 a.m. Station #69 is located at 11151 N.W. 74 Street. Miami-Dade County Commissioner Sally Heyman, Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz, City of Doral Mayor Luigi Boria, Vice-Mayor Bettina Rodriguez-Aguilera, and Councilwoman Sandra Ruiz joined Fire Chief Dave Downey in the opening celebration.

The 12,038-square-foot, triple-bay facility accommodates advanced life support units. The station will house the following trucks; Hazardous Materials, Technical Rescue, Rescue, and Battalion. The new station can accommodate up to 12 firefighters per shift and a separate dormitory for a battalion chief.

“The new facility will help increase service and improve response time and efficiency,” said Fire Chief Dave Downey. “The opening of Station #69 will enable Miami-Dade County to continue providing for the health, safety and welfare of the residents of Doral and its surrounding communities.”

To celebrate the station being open for business, the crew from Station #69 along with special guests continued the tradition of the truck push. In the 1800’s when a new station was built members of the community and the firefighters ceremoniously pushed the fire engine into the new station for the first time.
